Join Madeline Black and Trina Altman for a tactile, spiral-focused experience using a yoga block to understand how sensory input affects motor output and why new and varied movements are important for the body. Discover your own movement + gait patterning and how to shift toward feeling more at ease in your body.

During this special two-hour master class, expect to learn movement strategies to amplify exploration and creativity for yourself and your clients.

Madeline and Trina are known for their innovative use of props and spaces to facilitate incredibly varied and unique exercise classes.  

IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL:

  • Move through numerous spiral lines from the feet to the head 

  • Assess your preferred rotational and lateral movement patterns using oblique movements 

  • Use various types of muscle contractions to evaluate more global body results 

  • Explore how doing similar moves in different positions changes what we sense and feel 

  • Use unique and novel movements to “disorient” the body for new sensory input and movement pathways

Madeline Black’s life pursuit is the discovery of how the human body moves. With over 30 years in the field of movement, her curiosity explored all aspects of movement in dance, Pilates, yoga, Gyrotonic®, fitness training and from studies of human biomechanics, human cadaver dissection labs, osteopathic and manual therapies.

Madeline is the author of “Centered: Organizing the body through movement theory, kinesiology and Pilates techniques” published by Handspring Publishing. She is currently working on a second edition to "Centered".

Madeline developed the Madeline Black Method™, a method teaching movement teachers to use assessment skills, movement sequences and manual techniques to help people achieve their fullest movement potential. Her extensive study and widely respected accomplishments in the field of movement and fitness have fueled her rise as an international leader in movement and exercise education. What sets Madeline apart is her intuitive integrity, articulate awareness of the physical body and decades of expertise.

Madeline has filmed many workshops and movement classes for Pilates Anytime and Fusion Pilates EDU Online. She has a private practice in Sonoma, CA USA.

Trina Altman received her training through STOTT Pilates® and is an E-RYT 500. She created Yoga Deconstructed® and Pilates Deconstructed® to show teachers how to take an interdisciplinary approach to foster an embodied understanding of yoga and Pilates in relation to modern movement science.

Trina has presented at Momentum Fest, the International Association of Yoga Therapy Conference, and Kripalu. She also created and taught a Pilates continuing-education course for physical therapists and was part of the faculty for the Brain Longevity conference at UCLA. Trina is also was the co-creator of Equinox’s signature program Best Stretch Ever, which utilizes the mobility stick to improve functional range of motion, body awareness, and total body strength.

Trina was a finalist in the Next Pilates Anytime Instructor Competition in 2017. Her work has been published in Yoga Journal, Yoga International, and Pilates Style magazine and her classes have been featured on Yoga International and Yoga Anytime. Her book, Yoga Deconstructed®: Transitioning from Rehabilitation Back Into the Yoga Studio was published by Handspring Publishing in 2020.
