Ribcage movements help the spine become more supple. When the ribs are stiff, the lumbar and cervical spine tend to compensate. The compensation is stressful on the joints and the tissues (fascia and muscles) of these areas. Some pain in the neck and lower back is due to a stiff ribcage. This simple movement of breathing and side to side motion of the ribs while lying on the floor will ease the tension and increase suppleness of the spine.
